Clinical Interests and Expertise
Miss Umarji is committed to delivering holistic, patient-centred care and will always prioritise non-operative and minimally invasive treatments wherever appropriate before considering surgery. Her research interests include Dupuytren’s disease, and at her NHS base she was Principal Investigator for a national, multi-centre clinical trial exploring non-operative treatment options and emerging techniques, including collagenase (Xiapex) injections. She has published on steroid injections in the hand and wrist, hand and wrist injuries, and arthritis of the hand.
Working within a Major Trauma Centre has provided Miss Umarji with extensive experience in managing complex and devastating hand and wrist injuries, as well as simple and complex fractures and their complications. She is pleased to offer expert second opinions on complex hand and wrist conditions, in addition to treating more common problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis and inflammatory arthritis, tendon disorders, and nerve compression syndromes.
A former national-level rugby and cricket player with ten Oxford Blues, Miss Umarji has a strong understanding of the physical demands of sport and the importance of timely, safe return to performance. Many of her patients are high-level athletes, including rowers, tennis players, and rugby players. She has a particular interest in sports-related hand and wrist injuries, such as scapholunate ligament injuries, TFCC tears, and exertional forearm conditions.
